How to Make a Timeline

Step 1: Pick out point of history you want to make timeline for.

Step 2: Get paper, pencils and colored pencils (optional). I don’t really have any brand to recommend so just use whatever you have available.

Step 3: Start by a making a line on the top of the piece of paper and divide the line into separate parts. Depending on how detailed you want it to be then the more parts of the timeline you will have.

Step 4: Label the parts of history that you want to include. You can make little pictures with something relevant from the time period that you are referring to in your section that you are labeling, such as aqueducts for Roman times or an American flag for the Revolutionary War. This is what the colored pencils are for.

Step 5: Go over your timeline and make sure you’ve added years for the timeline and make sure that every part of history is in the right place and is correct. Remember, you can’t rewrite history.
